Since its inception in 2004, H.A.T.S has been providing fleece hats for underprivileged or uncared for youth nationally and internationally. The organization particularly values its youth volunteers and aims to inspire and facilitate acts of service in America’s young adults while encouraged all volunteers to build personal relationships despite difference. Our hope is that the nature of this service-learning project will inspire young adults to recognize their talents and use them positively.
10 hats were delivered to several young women in Darjeeling, India. All students, these girls had moved from their family homes to work and attend school. They graciously invited me into their dorm to chat and get to know each other. With such cold temperatures and no indoor heat, these hats were certainly in need. A special thank you to Sonam from Sonam's Kitchen for helping us connect. Not only did I enjoy many wonderful breakfasts at her restaurant, but her kind and loving heart was inspirational.
